Action Plan for Higher Education Engagement Program of UBA in collaboration with C 20 - LiFE working group Civil-20 is one of the Engagement groups of the G20 process. The purpose of Civil20 (C20) is to bring together voices, ideas and solutions from civil societies across the Globe. The C20 group leverages the diverse spectrum of our society and is expected to channel the G20 process towards being inclusive, people-centric, democratic and better informed. For the past few years, Bharat has been highlighting ‘Lifestyleʼ as one of the issues requiring global discussion. Lifestyle for the Environment is one of the important discussion themes in all three tracks of the G20 process. The C20 in Bharat has created 14 working groups covering various aspects that civil societies work on. LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) has been identified as one of the significant working groups.

About the Speaker: Shri Ashok Bhagat an eminent social worker is the founder Secretary of Vikas Bharti Bishunpur a voluntary Social organization of national repute. Vikas Bharti came into existence in the year 1983, during last 39 years he initiated development activities in an around 15000 villages of Jharkhand. His sincere effort contributed immensely in mainstreaming PVTGs in Gumla District. Ashok Bhagat started his career as youth activist in Uttar Pradesh in 1972. Shri Bhagat initiated youth movements in Allahabad, Lucknow, Gorakhpur and Banaras Hindu Universities for the sake of Nation Building. He rendered his services for the benefit of youth and Rural Reconstruction by joining Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthy Parisad as State Organising Secretary of U.P. Mr. Ashok Bhagat was actively involved in J.P. movement against emergency and to fight for democracy, he was jailed for one year. During 1978 to 1982 Shri Bhagat was associated with Sri Aurobindo Navnirman Prakalp” in Gorakhpur (U.P.) for reconstruction of villages In the year 1983, for National integration and to ensure the integrated development of remote tribal villages, Sri Ashok Bhagat established Vikas Bharti Bishunpur. To assimilate Tribal people of Jharkhand, he started living with the Tribal communities in Bishunpur Gumla and changed his name from Ashok Rai to Ashok Bhagat, now popularly known as Bhagatjee. During last 39 years he has done some extraordinary and astonishing work in bringing change amongst the tribal and downtrodden people. He strived hard to reduce Tribal exploitation, Zamindari System, conservation of forest resources and other burning issues related environment protection in tribal communities.
He formed Dharti Raksha Wahini to promote local self Governance ( Gram Swarajya) to protect natural resources land Water and Forest ( Jaal, Jangal, Jameen) Shri Ashok Bhagat revived the Tana Bhagat movement in Bishunpur which was all about non violence, omission of the habit of consuming raw animal flesh, Alcoholic drinks and to reinstate social justice. He has built a number of statues of great tribal people of yesteryears through in-depth research and discussion with elderly tribal people so that the tribal youth can know about them and follow the path of National integrity and sanctity by remembering their ancestor’s great work. To ensure Smooth and good governance following the ideology of Mahatma Gandhi Ji in Jharkhand he has formed Gram Swarajya Munch. This forum has been rendering its services in all Districts of Jharkhand. Shri Ashok Bhagat was a Member of Governing Body under the Chairmanship of Prime Minister of India to commemorate 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Shri Ashok Bhagat has received Indira Priyadarshini Vriksha Mitra Award in 1991at the national level for outstanding social development activities, received Vivekananda Sewa Puraskar in 1992 – By Kumar Sabha Pustakalya Kolkata India, BHAU RAO SEWA SAMMAN, for Best Social Services. At the international level Sri Bhagat received Swami Rama Humanitarian Award 2008 from Himalayan Trust for social services and empowerment of rural poor and tribal people of hard to reach areas of Jharkhand. Shri Bhagat Conferred with PADMASHREE Award in 2015. In the year 2015 Shri Bhagat also received 18th Mahaveer Award for social services from Bhagwan Mahaveer Foundation Chennai. #SriAshokBhagat #UBA #LiFE
