As per the scope of UBA, many events are conducted by Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology on its five adopted villages: Majitar, Samardung, Sawney, Chewribotey and Zitlang. Faculty and students have interacted with villagers on many occasions. Village surveys as well as household surveys are conducted by faculty members and students. SMIT authorities have always extended full support to UBA team for carrying out all the activities. Few events under conducted by SMIT as UBA activity are mentioned below

Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Campaign’ under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan As per the objectives of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology has conducted one rapport building activity at Samardung village, South Sikkim on 22 Jan 2023. The program name was ‘Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Campaign and Pad Distribution’. Around 15 ladies from different households were present in the event. Our trained student members presented a speech on the topic of the event. Our faculty members interacted with villages for conducting household surveys as per the requirement of UBA. Samardung village (ward 06) sarpanch Ms. Kritika Sharma was present in the event. Mr. Ramesh Chettri, a social activist at Samardung help us to conduct the event. We promised to conduct more such activities for the upliftment of Samardung village in the future.

Football Match at Sawney Village, Menstrual Awareness Program and Pad distribution at Zitlang and Chewribotey As per the objectives of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology has started surveys at its adopted villages. Data are collected on villages as well as from a few households in each of the adopted villages. To build rapport with villagers, we have started arranging awareness programmes, tournaments, camps, Gramsabhas. Under these activities, a football tournament was arranged at sawney village on 04 Dec 2022 and a menstrual hygiene and awareness campaign, and pad distribution were arranged at Zitlang and Chewribotey on 15 Dec 2022. Few of SMIT students Ms. Asmita Mukherjee, First Year CSE, Ms. Chahat Bagla, First Year CSE, Ms. Binapsha Pradhan, First Year CSE and Ms. Rajshri Tamang, First Year CSE have volunteered at these events. Dr. Saumya Das, Assistant Professor, IT Department, SMIT, Ms. Jhuma Sunwar, Assistant Professor, CSE Department, SMIT and Mr. Biswa Gurung, Attender, AI & DS Department are directly associated with UBA activities from SMIT. Villagers have shown their sincere gratitude to Unnat Bharat Abhiyan and the Director, Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology, for taking these initiatives for their upliftment. Special thanks to Associate Director (SA), SMIT for his constant encouragement and support for these activities. Also, thanks to HODs of all departments for making the staff available for these activities. Thanks to Head Admin, SMIT for making the vehicle ready for village visit always. We also appreciate the finance team for managing the UBA seed grant fund and disbursing them as needed. We promise to conduct more such activities for the upliftment of our adopted villages in the future.

Cleanliness Drive and UBA Survey conduction at lower Majitar Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology organized a cleanliness drive and survey at lower Majitar village on 17 Sep 2023. This event was part of the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, a Ministry of Education initiative to build rapport with villagers. UBA cell, SMIT and NSS cell jointly organized the event. 15 students and 2 faculty members participated in the event. 14 villagers were also present in the drive. It was started at 6:30 am in the morning and continued till 9 am. At first phase volunteers started the cleanliness drive at lower Majitar area along with local villagers. It was completed by 8 pm. Then students gathered information from households in UBA survey format. Light refreshment was also arranged for volunteers and villagers. Majitar councilor, Ms. Sanju Manger was also present in the event. SMIT students planned, prepared, and executed the complete event. Dr. Saumya Das, Assistant Professor, UBA Coordinator, SMIT coordinated the activities for this event. Ms. Jhuma Sunwar, Assistant Professor, CSE assisted in preparing students for the event. Continuous support received from Dr. G.L. Sharma, Director, SMIT, Dr. A.P.Tiwary Associate Director (SA), SMIT and Dr. N.K. Bhattacharyya, Designated Associate Director (SA) for conducting this event. Villagers have shown their sincere gratitude to Unnat Bharat Abhiyan and Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology, for taking these initiatives for their upliftment. SMIT promised to conduct more such activities for the upliftment of Majitar village in the future.
