PERENNIAL FUND REPORT

2021-2022

Unnat Bharat Abiyan 2.0:

Unnat Bharat Abiyan is a flagship programme of the Ministry of Human Resource Development with the intention to enrich Rural India. Fatima College is one of the Participating Institutions under UBA- 2.0 selected in a challenge mode based on our past contribution to societal development.

As per requirement, our institution identified 5 villages namely Thirumal Natham, Nedungulam, Vadugapatti, Ambalathadi and Kondayampatti in consultation with the District Collector and have built good rapport with people. So far we have conducted Participatory Rural Appraisal and formed stake holders committee in each villages. Village survey and house hold survey has been carried out and uploaded in UBA Portal.

Faculty and Students have participated in Gram Sabha meets and addressed local issues and have under taken various activities to find solution to those problems in collaboration with villages.

Village Development Plan was prepared with Stake Holders of the respective villages. Regular activities such as Tutoring, Swachatha Activities, Jal Sakthi activates, environmental protection activities and skill trainings are carried out on a regular rhythm. Initially during the year 2018-2019 Our Institution received Rs.50000/- as seed money to carry out survey related activities.

For Second Phase during January 2020, our Institution applied for Perennial fund which is provided to those institutions who are participating in multiple development work or projects in the villages through regular visits. Selection is done on merit basis based on the evaluation of the progress report of PIs.

We are happy to know that our Institution is awarded perennial fund of 1.75 lakhs by UBA for the second phase. Total 2614 institutions including all the IITs, Medical colleges and Engineering collages are selected as PIs under UBA 2.0. More than 300 colleges had applied for this award and out of that 78 colleges were awarded this perennial fund on August 2020. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sPihP2filCw&feature=youtu.be

 

 

Actions Taken:

The academic year 2021-2022 was a challenging period to reach out to villages due to the Pandemic situation. In spite of this heddles experienced few initiatives are taken to sensitize a local community. The following are the activities

 

Strengthening stake holders’ committees in the target villages to ensure sustainability of services extended to them:

  • On 02.10.2021 all the department extension incharge faculty members with students representatives were participated in Grama Shaba meet held in their respective villages. The problems and grievances of the villages were discussed.  
  • Stakeholders meet was organized virtually for the village development plan. ROSA organised a meeting with the UBA village presidents on 07.12.2021.The Chief Guest,   Dr. K. Ravichandran, the south zonal coordinator for UBA, Gandhi Gram University, Madurai addressed the faculty and village leaders. He guided the presidents and faculty members to prepare Village Development Plan in collaboration with villagers.

Offering Skill training to the women in the adopted villages leading on to business start-ups:

  • On 15-3-2022, Department of English, organized a workshop on Herbal Sanitary Napkins Making and Organic Soap Making to promote the hygiene of rural women and to empower them through self-employment. . Mrs.Kannamma who is also famously called as the Paruthipen trained the villagers to make organic sanitary napkins.
  • Dr.M.Theeradi Mani, Head, Department of Plant Pathology, Agricultural College addressed about Milky Mushroom at Thirumalnatham Village on 17.03. 2022. The session emphasised the benefits of Mushroom Cultivation Training.
  • A skill training session on Jewellery making took place in Ambalathadi village on 24.03.2022. Ms. G. Kalaiselvi thought the process of paper filigree and basics to make various ornaments such as earrings, bangles, etc., Women and Children of the village actively and enthusiastically involved and participated in Skill training session. Several villagers grasped the technique quickly and begun to prepare by themselves.
  • A  hands on training on Vermi compost was arranged in the adopted village Ambalathadi on 24.3.2022. Dr. K.Senthil, Assistant Professor (Agricultural Chemicals), Department of Soil and Environment, Agricultural College and Research Institute, Madurai was the guest of honour. He expressed the demand for vermicompost in the market and the level its production and marketing. He guided us to outline and prepare vermiculture in larger amount.
  • On 16.03.2022, Ms. S. Evelyn Jewell, the Jewellery Making Trainer trained the Villagers to make Stud, Chain, Bangle, etc in more simple and easy way. The Villagers enthusiastically participated and got trained in making of Bangles, Chains, etc. Nearly 50 members including the Public, Youngsters, and Women Volunteers participated in this Skill Training programme.
  • On 22.03.2022, Mrs. M.Susai Mary, the Bathing Powder & Medicinal Powder Preparation Trainer trained the Villagers to make the same in very many ways.  Skill trainer explained the procedure to make herbal soap powder, hair oil and herbal powder. Nearly 50 members including the Public, Youngsters, and Women Volunteers participated in this Skill Training programme.
  • A skill training session on decomposed Cocopeat was organized in Nedungulam village on 23.3.2022. Resource Person gave suggestions and encourage them to use decomposed cocopeat to reduce their water scarcity from cultivation since decomposed cocopeat can store upto 60% of water in it.
  • A skill training session on Apiculture was organized and executed in the adopted village Nedunkulam on 24.3.2022.  The Resource person, Mrs. Josephine Selvaraj explained the uses of honey and shared her experience in the field. Village people eagerly learned about the bee hive Industry.
  • On March 25, 2022, Dr.Silviya Reeta, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Chemistry, Fatima College Trained the Villagers on making washing Powder and Phenoyl. She demonstrated the procedure to make soap powder and phenoyl at low cost from raw materials. Nearly 50 members including the Public, Youngsters, Women Volunteers participated in this Skill Training.
  • Workshop on Traditional Medicine on 11-04-2022, The Resource person instructed apparent information about the Herbal Medicines
  • A workshop on House hold products was organized on 12.4.2022. Dr.B.Vinosha, Assistant professor of Chemistry department was the resource person. She demonstrated the preparation of Incense Stick, Phenoyl and washing powder.
