UNNAT BHARAT ABHIYAN Scheme Under SEG,

Liquid Waste Management Progress Report

13.09.2023

Our proposal got approved by SEG for funding through UBA. The project title is ”Greywater Recycling System Design and Economic Analysis for Residences in Kariapatti Village”. 3 faculty coordinators and 8 student coordinators are involved in this project. Based on the common survey, we have selected Kariapatti village to implement this project. Also we need to conduct project based household survey, to identify the specific village location which is suitable for our project. In this regard, it is mandatory to get permission from the local governance.

So, the faculty and student coordinators visited Tahsildar, Tahsildar office, Kariapatti, on 13.05.2022. The faculty coordinators explained in detail about the importance of the project and the implementation process to be carried out with the help of Tahsildar. With more concern, Tahsildar has readily accepted for the implementation in the needed villages.

We submitted a requisition letter to Tahsildar regarding visit and to take survey in that village on 17.05.2022. Tahsildar directed the letter to Senior Revenue Inspector. We briefed about our project to him. He gave permission to visit & take survey in Kariapatti area on 04.08.2022.

We visited Tahsildar office on 04.08.2022 at 11 am. Kariapatti area VAO and Thalaiaari bot accompanied with us to guide the area and helped us to interact with people in that area. We visite 3 streets in Anna nagar Kariaptti.

Our Survey detailed as follows.

We have visited 4 places (2 compound, one individual house and lake near sevalpatti.)

  1. First we visited a compound in Anna nagar first street. In this compound totally 3 house(approximately 6 persons) are there. The grey water is collected using PVC pipe and let it flow to the drainage.
  2. In this compound Totally 8 houses (Ground floor 4 & First Floor 4) approximately 16 persons are there. The grey water from all the houses collected by PVC pipe and stored in the tank in order to filter the dust particles. From the tank the grey water will flow to the drainage.
  3. In this house they let the grey water to flow in the septic tank. The house owner not read to talk with us though we went along with that area Talaiaari.
  4. There is a lake in Sevalpatti. There are 100 house around the lake. Earlier this lake used for drinking water. But nowadays its become a big drainage. The grey water from all the houses are collected in the common drainage and flow to the lake. Because of this in rainy session the lake overflow and then flow to the road and street . While crossing the lake we can sense the bad smell
  5. The above figure shows the inlet way to lake.

Observation

  1. From our visit we inferred the details as follows.
  2. All the houses let the waste water to flow directly into drainage or septic tank.
  3. Peoples are not co operative .
  4. lake is fully polluted by the waste water.
