Through our visionary Honorable Chancellor Dr. Paarivendhar a milk processing unit has been dedicated for the upliftment of the livelihoods of the rural women at Nattarasanpattu village. By the efforts of the SRM Institute of Hotel Management and Unnat Bharat Abhiyan SRMIST the milk chiller, paneer making machine and the cream separator have been dedicated on 2.11.2023 to commemorate the 2nd International Conference on Sustainable Development Goals (ICSDD) on theme of SDG 1 (No poverty). The inauguration was done by Dr. Antony Ashok Kumar, Director SRM-IHM and Dy. Registrar. In his inaugural address, he emphasized the importance of such self-sustainable business opportunities for the rural community to bring the rural economy as well as to improve the quality of life.
The components of the instruments and their functioning were explained by Dr.T.Deepa to the delegates and the guests. A 10 L milk was processed on the spot for paneer making. She emphasized the support of the village administrators and the SRMIST management to make this establishment of a milk processing unit to happen since the 2021 workshop on dairy processing and cattle management. The inaugural function was presided by Mr. T. Selvaraj, Director, SIRD, Chennai. He lauded this initiative of SRMIST to establish the micro-enterprise for the rural community that will enhance the vision and mission of Government policy for rural upliftment. He urged the rural community to utilize this opportunity to grow further and make it a Milk Society as AMUL was done in Gujarat. He said that his office is ready to support such initiatives in other villages adopted under UBA-SRMIST. He thanked the management of SRMIST for such meaningful contribution to society
Dr.V.Thirumurugan, Nodal officer (UBA-SRMIST) and Associate Director (CL) has addressed the gathering about the vision of UBA in all the 12 adopted villages for the overall development of the community as per the advice from the Hon. Chancellor. He thanked the coordinators and village administrators for making this establishment to reality after a sincere effort.
Mr.Sambasivam, the founder of Aram Seivom trust has thanked the support of SRM management since 20 years to him and his village. He introduced the Self-Help Group members who will take care of this milk processing enterprise in the days to come. He promised that this small unit will become a cluster of businesses in the future through coordination with government schemes and NGO. He introduced Ms.Girija the manager of his trust who has been an entrepreneur due to such societal contribution and her present endeavor in the online business of cosmetics and teaching the tailoring work free of cost.
The function was graced by Mrs. Manjula Karthikeyan, vice president-Nattarsanpattu. All the delegates were felicitated during the function. Dr. B. Samuel Jacob, UBA-Village Coordinator (SRMIST) has delivered the vote of thanks to the gathering. The event was well coordinated by Mrs. J. Vinodha Evangeline with the students from SRM-IHM along with the conveners.
