Sri Eshwar College of Engineering (Tamil Nadu) conducted a survey in Kodhavadi (aka Kothavadi), a small village in Kinathukadavu, Coimbatore adopted by the institution under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan program. During the village survey, it was identified that there’s a need to improve lighting during night time, which is a reason for many issues. It was also identified that the village already had 13 solar street lights, but those were not functioning. Hence, it was decided to renovate and make these solar lights operational. Additional lights were also proposed in certain areas of the village to improve the security of the villagers. A project report was prepared and sent to National Coordinating Institute and it was further approved by the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan for implementation.
A convergence was established with M/s Messer Cutting Systems India Private Limited (Coimbatore) along with Sri Eshwar College of Engineering for the installation of solar street lights in the Kodhavadi village, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.
Out of 13 already existed street lights in the village, 10 were serviced by M/S Messer Cutting Systems India Private Limited at a cost of ₹91,000 and the remaining 3 street lights were serviced by Sri Eshwar College of Engineering at a cost of ₹50,000 under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan funding. 2 new solar street lights were also installed by M/S Messer Cutting Systems India Private Limited at a cost of ₹60,000.
Outcomes
The project was successfully completed. Similar projects will be implemented in other villages also to encourage the use of renewable energy for electrification to match with the vision of the Government. See more rural development stories and get inspired.
