Action Taken 1: MARINE DIGITAL SCHEME- DISTRIBUTION OF LAPTOP AND PROJECTOR TO THE PALAYAKAYAL PANCHAYAT SCHOOL AND SPOKEN ENGLISH PROGRAMME TO RURAL CHILDREN

Description      :

Through Marine Digital Scheme, Laptop and projector were distributed to the Palayakayal Panchayat School and the the inaugural of Spoken English Programme to the rural school children for three months were taken place. The Marine Digital Scheme sponsored amount is Rs. 79,420. On 26th April 2021 the valedictory function was held at Palayakayal for the small scale programme on Jute products conducted under the UnnatBharat Abhiyan scheme of St Mary's College (Autonomous) Thoothukudi. The training program on jute products at Palayakayal was conducted from March to April 2021 as part of the Marine Digital Scheme. The free training was aimed to develop entrepreneurship skill among the rural women.  The programme was 

sponsored by the Perennial Assistance Fund of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan. More than 20 women benefited. The valedictory function was started over by a prayer song followed by the welcome address, address about Perennial Fund, Distribution of laptop and projector, Felicitations by the village councillor, Presidential Address by Sr. Jessie Fernando and Felicitation by Sr.Liza.

Finally the function ended up with the Blessings by Rev Fr.Amalan and  Vote of Thanks by our student V.Sandhiya Joyce Mary. There was also an exhibition and sales of Jute products prepared by women of Palayakayal. The products made during the training were displayed as well. The training was extremely useful for people. The programme was attended by students of St. Mary’s and people from Palayakayal.

From April to June 2021 Spoken English programme was organized. Materials were given and the trainer were appointed. The Syllabus was prepared with the learned English Faculty of our college. During the week days from 2pm to 3.30 pm, the classes have been conducted during the leave days. After the school reopening, the spoken English classes were conducted from 5p.m. to 6 p.m. There was a lot of improvements among the children. Now during the weekend, the classes are conducted.

Action Taken 2: MARINE PONMAGAL SCHEME – SMALL SCALE PROGRAMES ON JUTE PRODUCTS AND AARI WORKS TO EMPOWER RURAL WOMEN

Description   :

          Unnat Bharat Abhiyan of St Mary's College (Autonomous) Thoothukudi organised a 13 days training program on jute products at Tharuvaikulam from April 12, 2021 to April 24, 2021 as part of the Marine Ponmagal Scheme. The free training was aimed to develop entrepreneurship skill 

among the rural women. The programme was sponsored by the Perennial Assistance Fund of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan. The amount is around Rs.60,000. Ms. Kejita of Tharuvaikulam shared the experiences of Jute training. Ms. Jeyamary, Women representative of Tharuvaikulam inaugurated the Aari Work Training by reading out the 29 participants list. She shared the need and the importance of Aari works. Aari work training continued till 8th May 2021. More than 20 women were benefitted. Mohandass Samuel, lawyer and founder of All Can Trust was the chief guest. Fr. Edward of Tharuvaikulam, Mr. Maharaja, the village head, Dr. Sr. A. S. J. Lucia Rose, the principal of St. Mary's College, Thoothukudi, Dr. Sr. S. Kulandai Therese, UBA coordinator of   St. Mary's College, Keerthana Santhosh, Assistant Professor and UBA Coordinator of History department, Dr. G. Priscilla Pacifica, Assistant professor of Mathematics, students and villagers attended the programme. Certificates were issued for those who have completed the training. The products made during the training were displayed as well. The training was extremely useful for the people. The programme was attended by students of St. Mary’s and people from Tharuvaikulam. Certificates were issued on 21st June 2020. Due to COVID-19, the certificate ceremony was delayed

Action Taken 3 : Marine Solar Street Lamp Scheme – Installation of Solar Street Lamps in Kalangarai, Korampallam Panchayat

Our college UBA organized the Marine Solar Street Lamp Scheme sponsored by the UBA Perennial Assistance Fund which was “the installation of Solar Street Lamps in Kalangarai, Korampallam Panchayat” in the month of July 2021. Through this scheme, we have installed two Solar Lamps in two different streets in the Village of Kalangarai, Korampallam Panchayat. People opined that it will be benefitted to the rural kids for learning purpose. Two solar lamps were installed successfully in the village and utilized by the village people perfectly. Evening tuition classes are going everyday to uplift the rural children because no proper regular classes to them due to COVID. Schools were remained closed. This initiative helps the rural children to learn something new from their academic syllabus. The tuition is monitored by St. Mary’s College (Autonomous), Thoothukudi. The mounting work was sponsored by Panchayat of Korampallam. Travelling allowance and portable amount was met by the wellwishers. For the evening tuition trainer fee, the College Management and Lions Club of Thoothukudi president sponsor.
